Your First Kickboxing And Fitness Class

What to Expect at Your First Kickboxing & Fitness Class in East Flatbush, Brooklyn
Thinking about trying kickboxing but unsure what your first class will be like? At Binns Victory Martial Arts in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, we want you to feel comfortable walking through the door. You don’t need previous kickboxing experience or to be in great shape to get started. Your first Kickboxing & Fitness class is about learning the basics, getting moving, and taking the first step toward your fitness goals.
1. Arrive a Little Early
Plan to arrive 5–10 minutes before class so you have time to meet your instructor and get settled.
Let us know it’s your first class. This is also a good time to share your goals and mention any injuries or limitations that may affect your workout.
2. What to Wear and Bring
Wear comfortable workout clothes that allow you to move freely. Bring:
Water to stay hydrated during class.
A small towel for sweat.
Boxing gloves, if you already own a pair. If you don’t, contact us before your first class to confirm what you’ll need.
You’ll be punching, kicking, and moving, so choose clothing you feel comfortable exercising in.
3. Start with a Warm-Up
Class begins with a warm-up to help you loosen up and prepare for the workout.
Follow your instructor’s lead and take things at your own pace. You don’t have to keep up with someone who has been training for months—focus on getting comfortable with the movements.
4. Learn Basic Punches and Kicks
Your instructor will introduce the stance, punches, and kicks used during class. You’ll start learning how to position your hands, move your body, and put movements together.
Focus on technique before speed or power. It’s normal to mix up a combination or need another demonstration. You’re here to learn, and we’ll guide you along the way.
5. Put It Together with a Fitness Workout
You’ll practice kickboxing combinations alongside fitness exercises that challenge your strength, coordination, and endurance.
Expect to move, sweat, and try something new! If you need a break, take one. If a movement feels too challenging, ask your instructor for an adjustment.
Your first-day goal is to learn and find a pace that works for you.
6. Cool Down and Ask Questions
We’ll finish by winding down and stretching. After class, take a moment to ask questions and let your instructor know how the workout felt.
Whether you’re excited, tired, or still figuring out the combinations, you’ve accomplished something: you showed up and got started.
Do I Need to Be Fit Before I Start?
No—you can start from where you are today.
You don’t need perfect coordination, high kicks, or experience with a punching bag. Give yourself time to learn and become more comfortable with each class.
